We live in a world taken out of context. Images, text, videos and music are just a few examples of things taken from one source and used in another source for a new meaning. I use words and phrases taken from a social context and change them into design elements for a visual image. Alteration, sublimation and erasure change the original meaning into an abstract design with the word ultimately obliterated. The compositions in these paintings have no resting ground and live in a floating unattached state.

COLOR. SHAPE. TEXTURE. TIME
I am under the influence of color in the natural world. The task is choosing the first color in a composition and finding its harmonious companions. The shapes come from letters in words used as compositional elements. The words themselves come from current events and internal combustion. Texture is what happens as a natural result of the application process and is determined by the thickness and buildup of paint, oil pastels and any collaged elements. Time is thought of in a geological sense. The accumulation of layers and their indiscriminate removal. The erosion and shifting of the surface based on external forces.
